I actually cannot wrap my mind around the fact that I have been in Guatemala for over a month now! I have been able to experience so much in that time. If you need me to recommend a good cafe to get some work done, I got you! I may have visited more of the local cafes than the locals do. Going to the cafes has been a great way for me to lesson plan, grade, and it presents so many opportunities to practice my Spanglish! I have been privileged to receive Spanish tutoring once a week and I think it’s probably, most likely, helping... The senior class has also agreed to help me work on my pronunciation so I have started to read a passage (in Spanish of course) from the Bible at the beginning of every class. The first time.. well we laughed a lot and I’m sure it was terrible, but they said kind things like “it actually wasn’t that bad” and “I honestly expected worse” so maybe I’m onto something here. 😂 I have been able to visit a couple local churches (one with an English translator... and one well I pick out a few words here and there). However, I have been able to connect with a young couple from the Spanish church (they speak English) and they have been so gracious to me! We were able to get dinner this weekend and I am thankful for their friendship! Emilio was kind enough to voluntarily sit beside me in church and personally translate the service for me. It is so beautiful to see the people being the hands and feet of Jesus. The body of Christ is truly the best community! Even language barriers can’t hinder the joy present in the moments of… “Wait, you love Jesus too!?” LET”S GO!!
